Senior Linux Administrator

On behalf of a Federal Government Client, we are seeking to engaging a Linux System Administrator SFIA 5 (ASD EL1 equivalent) to assist in meeting demand for Linux system administration and High Performing Computing related services. They will be responsible for providing operational support, design and build of high performance computing infrastructure.

About the team

The High Performance Computing (HPC) is talented, highly motivated and dedicated IT Professionals, who sustain, design and build high performance computing infrastructure for production, test, development, and research functions supporting the agency’s missions. The team support all HPC systems, servers, interconnect fabrics, file systems, Operating Systems, virtualisation and container platforms in The HPC environment. The team works closely with software engineers, developers, data scientists and researchers who together underpin The High Performance Computing capabilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead or assist system administrator activities supporting the Linux and core services in the High Performance Computing environment.
• Provision and configure servers using life cycle system tools and/or self-documenting Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.
• Write support and security documentation.
• Work cohesively and communicate effectively with High Performance Computing Infrastructure project, technical and engineering staff, and stakeholder groups.
• Mentor and guide other team members, extensively sharing knowledge and experiences within the team.
• Ensure required controls and accounting of systems adheres to best practices, with a view to maintaining system integrity and performance.

Criteria

• Demonstrated system administration experience with Linux Operating Systems for example: Red Hat, Rocky, Suse.
• Demonstrated experience with configuration management tools for example: Ansible, Puppet or Salt.
• Thorough understanding of Networking technologies and topologies, particularly those utilised in HPC and related systems.
• Demonstrated experience with high performance storage systems for example: NAS, Object, On-premise cloud, Parallel file systems.
• Demonstrated experience with a continuous integration tools for example: GitLab or Jenkins.
• Demonstrated experience with Foreman or equivalent administration systems.
• Demonstrated capability to install and decommission HPC and related systems, hardware components.
